Curtains for Privacy

Most of us buy curtains for, as well as other things, the privacy they afford. It seems that privacy is not as important to some people though. For instance, recent reports have shown that guests at the Standard Hotel seem reluctant to even close their curtains!

The Standard Hotel, which towers over the new High Line Park in New York, has floor to ceiling windows and it would seem that guests have a habit of leaving the curtains wide open at times when they probably should not.

The hotel is now positively encouraging its guests to close the curtains after people flocked to the park to witness them in potentially compromising situations.

Importance of Curtains for Security Stressed

Homeowners have been reminded of the importance of drawing their curtains as a deterrent against burglary as a sentence is passed.

A 26 year old man was jailed at Leeds Crown Court for burglary. The presiding judge said,

I would continue to remind people of the importance of keeping their properties secure and the measures they can take, such as locking doors, leaving lights on and drawing curtains.

It is clear from this that when you buy curtains you are not just purchasing for the aesthetics but should also consider the additional security which they provide.

Measuring for a Standard Curtain Pole

Curtains poles are both practical and decorative. They can be used to radically improve the look of your window dressing.

Measuring for a standard curtain pole is not difficult.

If you already have a curtain pole and you are simply replacing one you can simply take the measurements of the existing curtain pole.

If you are starting afresh with and have never had a curtain pole before start by measuring the inside recess width of the window. Then you need to decide how much space you want to have on either side for the curtains to pull back. This should be at least 15cms on either side.
Remember that when you start shopping for your curtain pole you will also need to allow for the finials which go on the end of the pole.

Curtain poles can be used with both ready made curtains and made to measure curtains and in most window recesses. It is possible to use curtain poles even in bay windows although measuring is slightly more complicated.

Old Phones for Curtains

The celebrity Melinda Messenger has joined with a Bolton businessman to help to raise the money to buy curtains for an orphanage.

The pair plan to raise the cash by offering customers discounts for recycling their phones. The phones will then be sold by the businessman’s shops.

The funds will then go towards providing curtains for the Happy House Kenyan Orphanage.

Overwhelming Response to Curtain Appeal

A charity has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the donations made to help furnish the homes of vulnerable adults.

The charity which is based in New Zealand made the appeal for donations of unwanted curtains to help to keep in the warmth during what has been a particularly harsh winter. The curtains, which were donated by the general public, mean that the charity will not need to buy curtains for their projects.

The charity which is called Community Energy Action has fitted 17% more re-used curtains in the homes of low income, vulnerable people. They believe that the generous response reflects the growing awareness of the need to save energy and keep homes warm.

As we approach winter in this country, consider curtains as a means of keeping your home warm and conserving energy.
